The river Arade was once an important conduit for trade from the inland city of Silves past the fishing village of Portimao to the ocean. The little village of Mexilhoeira da Carregacao close to the mouth of the river was then an important centre for processing and canning fish. Even today the village retains its character and charm, and it is here, on the site of an old factory on the river bank, that Boca do Rio Resort offers all modern luxury and comfort whilst recognising and respecting the traditions of the past

Today the river is a playground, where you can learn and enjoy a range of activities. The spa centre offers a relaxing choice of facilities and treatments for complete well-being. Varied cuisine is on offer throughout the day and evening plus comfortable bars to relax in at the end of the day

There are 95 rooms and suites, each with ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV, internet access, direct dial telephone, mini bar, safe and hair dryer

Elsewhere there are a restaurant with international cuisine, 2 bars, outdoor pool, tennis courts, health club with heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym, Turkish bath and massage suite, and the Nautical Club with canoes, sailing dinghies, water scooters, water skiing and diving centre

The room and breakfast tariff includes buffet breakfast, shuttle service by boat to and from Portimao and the beach, one hour of tennis free per day (must be pre-booked and applies during the day only) and one hour's free use of canoe or sailing dinghy per day (again needs prior reservation), free access to the health club, pool towel, sun lounger and daily maid service

Prices quoted are per property or accommodation per night for the number of occupants shown under Rental Occupancy in the Occupancy table on the relevant property page.

The maximum occupancy allowable (assuming extra beds are available) is also shown.

Age restrictions apply at some properties (either at the owner's request or because on inspection we judged them necessary) and are indicated accordingly. 'Infant' or 'baby' means 3 years or less, 'child' more than 3 years to 12 years and 'adult' more than 12 years.

Bookings are accepted subject strictly to these requirements and the party arriving at the property must conform with them.
